Job Description and Duties
This position supports the California Department of Public Health’s (CDPH) mission by performing challenging and complex duties involved in the planning, development, organization, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of programmatic aspects the Rape Prevention and Education (RPE) Program.
Under the direction of the Health Program Manager II (HPM II), Chief of the Violence Prevention Program Section, The Health Program Specialist II (HPS II) will provide highly skilled technical assistance to the department and statewide and regional stakeholders in applying public health approaches and principles to injury and violence prevention focused on preventing and reducing sexual violence (SV). With guidance from the HPM II, the HPS II will coordinate and collaborate with local grant recipients and statewide contractors on activities focused on primary prevention of SV; coordinate with local programs and statewide contractors to engage in the development, implementation, and sustainability of projects that advance state efforts to prevent and reduce SV; support and facilitate the RPE Program Advisory Group and workgroup meetings; and provide presentations and webinars to increase coordination and raise awareness about research, emerging issues, and best practices statewide related to SV prevention activities.
The HPS II also maintains successful relationships with key department, statewide and nationwide stakeholders and among local funded projects and contractors that implement SV prevention activities where appropriate. This position may require travel (5%), in-state or out-of-state, which may require overnight stays to participate in meetings, trainings, and conferences.
