Epidemics, Pandemics, and Outbreaks is an online course offered by the University of Pittsburg. This course provides facts about infectious diseases and medical responses to those diseases. The focus of this course will be on the public health laws and policies that provide the framework for effective prevention, including topics such as quarantine, drug development, bioterrorism, and biodefense. Other topics covered in this course include global health security, outbreak investigations, and local countermeasures that can be taken in the event of an outbreak. This 4-week long course has a time commitment of 3 to 4 hours of work a week to complete all course materials. Each module consists of a combination of videos and readings, with multiple quizzes per week to assess the individual’s understanding of the material. Those who pass all graded assignments will complete the course.
