GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
 

Use your skills in nursing to make a difference in scenic Lincoln County.

Nurses have the autonomy to perform the functions of their jobs. This part-time position provides direct nursing care in the clinic & other settings. Responsible for the implementation of public health programs, such as Chronic Disease Management, Family Planning Services, Communicable Diseases, Ryan White Program, Maternal, and Child Health, case management of Children with Special Health Care needs LT Waivers, Immunization Program, and Public Health Emergency Preparedness.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.
 
  • Performs nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment & evaluation according to the ANA's Public Health Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice.
  • Provides direct nursing care in the home and other settings, through the use of the
    nursing process, including teaching and counseling patients and families in patient care.
  • Documents nursing care given, according to State Standards for Documentation, and on time.
  • Determines priorities and responsibilities based on public health core functions and
    essential services.
  • Arranges for and conducts nursing health clinics and classes at various sites within
    the county.; teaching individuals and groups about health promotion and disease
    prevention.
  • Performs majority of walk-in clinics applying the nursing process, guidelines and
    orders, and appropriate documentation.
  • Administers adult and child vaccines per program protocols and best practices.
  • Refers patients to other community resources and collaborates with those providers in carrying out outpatient care.
  • Represent the agency on local/county/state/national boards, committees, or
    organizations.
  • Work with the county nurse manager, public health response coordinator, agency staff, and state PH Emergency Preparedness team for the planning, training, and
    implementation of public health emergency response.

Qualifications


PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: 


Preference will be given to a BSN with work experience in public health nursing.
Preference given for experience in working with immunizations.
Preference is given for experience in communicable disease prevention and case management.
 
**Must have a valid driver's license

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  
Education:
Associate's Degree (typically in Nursing)

Experience:
0-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

OR


Education & Experience Substitution:

3-5 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of an LPN

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

  • Applicants must be able to:
    • Lift medical equipment of varying sizes and weights to about 50 lbs.
    • Travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested.
    • Work evenings, nights, and /or weekends when the situation requires it.

  • As a condition of employment, the successful applicant employed will be required to execute a release of personnel records to the director/board/commissioners in the county area involved to be used on an as-needed basis. 
  • In addition, the successful applicant will be required to complete an Employee Health Assessment, which includes verification of immunity to vaccine-preventable diseases. If found to be non-immune, vaccination will be required unless medically contraindicated. 
  • Yearly influenza vaccination is also required, unless medically contraindicated. 
  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, for every successful applicant. 
  • BLS/CPR for Healthcare Professionals is required.

      • Temporary employees accepting a part-time position.

      • Current employees accepting a promotional opportunity - recruitment must have been opened to the public. 

      • One year of service to WYDOH must be completed, failure to complete this requirement will forfeit the hiring incentive, and funds will be recouped from final pay.

      • Internal candidates would be required to remain in the position for a minimum of one (1) year from their promotion date.

      • Employees would only be eligible for one (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.

      • If the employee elects to downgrade through an active recruitment and/or appointment during the twelve (12) month period, they would be required to pay the bonus back.
