Caseworker II's are fully trained and exercise independent judgment and discretion while working under the supervision of a licensed professional in either assessing human service needs for children, youth, elderly adults, developmentally and/or intellectually disabled individuals, or providing substance abuse counseling to clients in a correctional facility or state institution. Employee recommends appropriate care or intervention, documents client/inmate progress, compiles case histories and prepares other related reports. Develops treatment plans and documents progress. May perform field investigations and determine actions or decisions governing a client's situation. May coordinate provider services and ensure the quality of services for clients. Generally, the best qualified individuals for this job at the Department of Health and Human Services will have obtained certification as a Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor. Some employees within this title may work in a correctional environment with an inmate population.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and refers services of community resources, placement providers, collateral agencies, the court, and/or other community partners with families, clients, or patients receiving MAT/MOUD services

  • Prepare detailed case documentation including: opening and closing cases, intake records, investigation summaries, case histories. activity logs, risk assessments, social summaries, needs assessments, service plans, and correspondence, etc.

  • Provides clients with information concerning rights, options, benefits, services, goals and expectations.

  • Provides counseling to clients/residents which may require interaction with member of the client's/residence family.

  • Facilitate substance use recovery classes focused on education and recovery strategies.

  • Assesses client/patient needs. Develops and implements plans to meet those needs.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Relevant work experience in a similar role (case worker, case manager, etc.)

  • Proficient in Google and Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, etc.)

  • Strong communication skills, a team-oriented mindset, and the ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with the incarcerated population

  • Basic data collection and entry skills

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Relevant certifications or licensure specifically related to substance use disorders or MAT treatment.

Supplemental Information

  • Risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g., being subject to possible physical attack.
  • Safety and risk issues inherit while working within a correctional facility with an inmate population are presumed.
  • Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
