Position Overview:
Under general supervision, the Community Engagement Coordinator will focus on developing and maintaining partnerships within diverse communities, planning and executing engagement strategies. Individuals in this role will be responsible for evaluating program effectiveness and ensuring the successful implementation of community health and violence prevention initiatives.

The Community Engagement Coordinator is expected to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Community Collaboration: Fosters and maintains strong relationships with diverse communities, individuals, local agencies, and organizations within the service areas of the Community Health and Violence Prevention Services (CHVPS) Division in Harris County.
  • Community Engagement: Collaborates in the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of community engagement strategies, programs, and plans, working closely with the Office of Communications, Education and Engagement (OCEE) when applicable.
  • Public Outreach: Prepares and delivers presentations to community groups, local agencies, organizations, and other stakeholders to raise awareness and encourage collaboration.
  • Community Initiatives: Acts as a division representative, actively participating in task forces, working groups, committees, advisory groups, emergency functions, and neighborhood groups to support ongoing initiatives.
  • Needs Assessment: Partners with individuals, departments, community representatives, and external agencies to gather information, conduct assessments, and identify community needs, ensuring the alignment and effectiveness of community engagement strategies.
  • Data Reporting: Prepares and presents written summaries, infographics, visualizations, data-driven reports, and other documents to leadership, including conclusions and actionable recommendations.
  • Program Evaluation: Performs evaluations of projects and programs, measuring effectiveness through performance metrics, including goals achieved and adherence to timelines, and selects appropriate data collection methods.
  • Activity Tracking: Tracks and maintains accurate records within engagement activity reporting systems, ensuring up-to-date documentation of all engagement efforts.

Requirements

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Relations, Communications, Public Policy/Administration, Social Work, or related field and one year to the experiences. 
    OR
    Associates degree and at least three (3) years of experience.
Licenses:
  • Valid Texas Drivers License (upon Hire)
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Skill in using the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for documentation, data analysis, presentations, and communication.
  • Knowledge of neighborhood organizations, community groups, and local agencies within the service areas, fostering connections to improve program outreach and effectiveness.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to establish and sustain productive working relationships and promote teamwork in diverse and inclusive environments
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to track, assess trends, and make recommendations to enhance programs and services based on data insights and feedback.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM (flexible); however, hours will vary and include nights and weekends, and holidays depending on the activities and needs of the division and department.
Work Environment:
  • This position is office- and community-based, offering a professional and collaborative workspace utilizing technology to support daily tasks, including computers, phones, and software applications. This role involves significant interaction with community members, organizations, and colleagues.
Physical Demands:
  • This role requires the ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to twenty (20) pounds.
Work Location:

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
