Position Overview:
As a senior member of the Applied Analytics team in the Office of Planning and Innovation, the Senior Data Analyst will provide complex analytical data products to support strategic planning, program evaluation, and performance management across various organizational initiatives. This role will work with diverse data sources to create reports, build dashboards, perform advanced analyses, and create maps that drive decision-making at the program, division, and organizational levels. The Senior Data Analyst will also provide mentoring and guidance to junior analysts as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Lead the full lifecycle of data analysis, including requirements gathering, data collection, cleaning, modeling, analysis, and visualization using tools like Excel, SQL, R, PowerBI, and ArcGIS.
  • Address ad-hoc data requests and respond to urgent analytical needs, including those related to time-sensitive or emergency situations.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure that data products meet operational and strategic needs.
  • Synthesize and interpret data from various sources to develop reports, dashboards, visualizations, and maps that support decision-making at the program, division, and organizational levels.
  • Mentor and train junior analysts by providing guidance on analytical techniques, data tools, best practices, and innovative approaches to data analysis. 
  • Automate data processes and apply advanced analytics to improve decision-making, identifying opportunities for process optimization that align with strategic data initiatives
  • Prepare and deliver reports, presentations, dashboards, and maps tailored to different audiences, including senior leadership and external stakeholders.

Requirements

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in public health, Data Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Computer Science, or a related field. 
Experience:
  • At least five (5) years of professional experience in data analysis, including working with complex datasets, developing data products, conducting advanced analysis, and creating maps.
  • At least five (5) years of experience using tools such as SQL, R, PowerBI, and ArcGIS.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex data insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Advanced expertise in data analysis, statistical modeling, and data visualization techniques.
  • Proficiency in tools such as Excel, SQL, R, PowerBI, and ArcGIS, including map creation and geospatial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of public health practices, community health assessments, and program evaluation methodologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to generate creative solutions for complex challenges.
  • Experience in mentoring junior analysts and ensuring their growth in analytical techniques and tool proficiency.

General Information

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:

  • Typical work hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • May require periodic overnight travel and long hours/overtime during emergencies/disasters.
  • May require occasional after hours support and maintenance of technical systems.
Work Environment:
  • Work environment is typically in an office environment but may require infrequent travel and interaction with the community at public events.
Physical Demands:
  • This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
