About the Position

A first-level professional position in behavioral services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) offer an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by providing direct support and implementing evidence-based interventions to enhance clients' quality of life. Professionals in this role conduct assessments, develop individualized support plans, and implement strategies to help clients build skills, improve behaviors, and achieve greater independence. Collaboration with interdisciplinary teams, families, and caregivers is essential, as is maintaining detailed documentation to track progress and ensure effective service delivery. This role requires strong communication skills, patience, empathy, and a commitment to person- centered care, making it ideal for individuals passionate about supporting others and growing within the field of behavioral or social services. Examples of work: • Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBA) to identify behavioral patterns and underlying causes. • Develop and implement individualized behavior intervention plans (BIPs) tailored to clients' unique needs and goals. • Teach daily living skills, communication techniques, and social behaviors to promote independence and community integration. • Provide direct behavioral support in group homes, community programs, or individual living environments. • Monitor clients’ progress through regular observation and data collection, ensuring interventions are effective. • Collaborate with families, caregivers, and interdisciplinary teams to align services with clients' goals and needs. • Respond to challenging behaviors using positive behavior support strategies and crisis intervention techniques. • Train and coach staff or caregivers on implementing behavioral interventions and best practices. • Prepare detailed documentation and progress reports for meetings, program evaluations, and compliance purposes. • Participate in team meetings and contribute to updates or modifications of behavior support plans.

Examples of Work

First-level professional position at the county/assigned location level involving the preparation and maintenance of all county financial records and the direction of business operations in a social services department. Incumbents investigate and resolve client complaints and verify receipt collections through the computer system. Jobs at this level explain and interprets policies and programs, rights, and responsibilities to clients, making appropriate referrals to other social services departments, or other agencies as needed. Employees may also oversee ongoing community based services to clients with significant disabilities. Responsible for planning and monitoring of accessibility needs and in-home personal care services to ensure clients remain as independent as possible in both the home and community based setting.
