This vacancy is located in the Nursing Department of Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System in Jackson, LA. ELMHS is the largest 24-hour, multi-site, state psychiatric complex, comprised of residential, outpatient and inpatient services. This posting will be used to fill Vacancies in the East and Forensic Division for both day and night shifts.

The position may be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency wide permanent status employees); by Detail to Special Duty; or as a part-time, temporary WAE. Current permanent status, classified employees may be required to accept a Probational appointed if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.

Special Entrance Rate (SER) of Pay based on years of experience as a licensed LPN.
LPN 1:$1,558.40-biweekly/$19.48-hourly
LPN 2:$1,667.20-biweekly/$20.84-hourly
LPN 3:$1,784.00-biweekly/$22.30-hourly

PREMIUM PAY (per HOUR physically worked):
$10.00 for working at ELMHS as a Specialty Unit.
$2.00 Starting Longevity Pay

This position is in a Career Progression Group and may be filled as a Practical Nurse--Licensed 1, 2, or 3 depending on the qualifications of the candidate selected. Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Possession of a current Louisiana Practical Nurse license, a temporary permit, or a multi-state license issued by a Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC/eNLC) state.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:
To provide basic nursing care to patients/clients in stable conditions and in predictable situations in accordance with the Professional Nurses Practice Act.

Level of Work:
Entry.

Supervision Received:
Close from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level.

Supervision Exercised:
May exercise functional supervision over paraprofessional nursing personnel.

Location of Work:
Statewide--health care facilities; correctional facilities.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Practical Nurse--Licensed, 2 by the absence of journeyman level assignments and independent performance of duties.

Examples of Work

Implements selective aspects of the nursing care plan, i.e., comfort, hygiene, safety measures, nutrition, etc. under progressively more generalized supervision from a Registered Nurse or Practical Nurse of a higher level.

Observes patients for changes in physical and/or mental status or behavior and reports significant changes.

Obtains specimens for laboratory testing as assigned.

Takes vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.

Administers medication and treatments in accordance with policies and procedures.

Transcribes physicians' orders and records medication and patient's condition on patient's charts and other records.

Receives and gives change of shift reports.

Requests stock drugs, medications, and supplies as assigned.

Administers CPR in emergency situations.

Admits, transfers, and discharges patients.

Gathers information about patient's past and current physical and mental status.

May administer oral and parenteral medication as prescribed by the physician and documents procedure.

Applies dressings, ointments, and other treatments as ordered and documents procedure.

Assists physicians with routine examinations and treatments.

Bathes, feeds, and makes patients comfortable.

Performs individual and group health teaching as assigned.
