Position Overview

The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire an Associate Director of Social Work for the Elgin Mental Health Center located in Elgin, Illinois. Directs and clinically supervises social work staff providing direct patient care, clinical training and interdisciplinary consultation for the Unfit to Stand Trial (UST) and Community Psychiatric Services (CPS) programs. Develops, coordinates and completes assessments, data collection, program planning, development and implementation activities for assigned programs. Evaluates and monitors social work performance improvement activities for assigned programs. Serves as a member of the Hospital Executive Committee, Governing Board and facility management committees. Serves as full-line supervisor.

Essential Functions

  • Serves as the Associate Director of Social Work.

  • Develops, coordinates and completes assessments, data collection, program planning, development and implementation activities for assigned programs; directs collection and analysis of data studies, patterns and trends.

  • Serves as full-line supervisor.

  • Evaluates and monitors social work performance improvement activities for assigned programs.

  • Serves as a member of facility management committees.

  • Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited school of social work.

  • Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible professional experience in a recognized social work services agency working with individuals with mental illness and other co-occurring conditions.  

  • Requires licensure by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three (3) years of professional experience planning and implementing a social work services program for individuals with mental illness.

  • Two (2) years of managerial experience in a public or private organization that delivers inpatient or outpatient psychiatric services.

  • Two (2) years of professional supervisory experience.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience performing social work activities in the evaluation and treatment of patients.

  • Two (2) years of professional experience assessing, developing and implementing training activities in a public or private organization.

  • Three (3) years of professional experience communicating in oral and written form with internal and external stakeholders.

  • One (1) year of basic proficiency in the use of office equipment, including personal computers.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

  • Requires the ability to work on-call, after business hours, weekends and holidays in case of emergency.

  • This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
