Advanced Molecular Detection Laboratory Supervisor

What You Will Do:
In this role, you’ll ensure the lab is fully staffed, well-trained, and operating at the highest standards of safety and quality. You’ll provide technical guidance for whole genome sequencing used in diagnostic and surveillance testing, playing a critical role in protecting public health.
Beyond daily operations, you’ll have the opportunity to drive innovation by evaluating and implementing new methodologies, securing funding through grant proposals, and ensuring timely completion of key deliverables. You'll collaborate closely with other lab supervisors, as well as Quality Assurance and Safety teams, while reporting directly to the Microbiology Office Director. Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee lab operations by ensuring staff training, quality control, safety, and compliance with accreditation standards. Review test results, update procedures, and address quality issues.
- Lead and develop staff by supervising team performance, allocating work efficiently, mentoring staff, and managing hiring and evaluations.
- Manage grants and budgets by writing grant applications, overseeing deliverables, tracking budgets, and approving lab procurements.
- Collaborate with public health partners by serving as a key contact for state and national public health programs, attending meetings, and representing the lab at conferences.
- Support leadership priorities by tackling high-priority assignments and contributing to the lab’s mission as needed.

To be considered for this position, you must meet one of the required qualification options listed and any additional qualifications included in the required qualifications section.
Option 1:
10 or more years of experience in a Microbiology or Molecular laboratory including 60 semester hours, or equivalent, from an accredited institution which includes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses - OR - 24 semester hours of science courses that includes six (6) semester hours of chemistry, six (6) semester hours of biology, and twelve (12) semester hours of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology in any combination
AND Laboratory training that meets one of these criteria: Completion of a clinical laboratory training program approved or accredited by the ABHES, the CAHEA, or other organization approved by HHS - OR - At least three (3) months documented laboratory training in each specialty in which the incumbent performs high complexity testing.
Option 2:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Cell biology, Biology, Chemistry, or another basic medical science, WHICH INCLUDES 20 or more semester hours or 30 quarter hours equivalent in microbiology, or a subject related to the study of microorganisms; AND six (6) or more years of experience in a Microbiology or Molecular laboratory.
