Animal Control Officer I

This position performs work in the enforcement of local and state laws and ordinances regulating the keeping, control, and protection of animals within the county; investigates and answers citizens’ requests relating to animals; issues appropriate warning notices and citations; captures animals using specialized animal capture equipment and techniques; participates in the rabies program and will assist with scheduled clinics; operates and maintains county animal shelter; completes documentation, records, files, and reports; and performs related tasks as required. The work schedule requires rotation of on-call weekend duty to cover emergencies and to maintain the animal shelter.
Graduation from high school and one year of experience as an animal control officer, security officer, or related law enforcement role; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. All health department employees (with the exception of individuals with an accommodation or medical exemption) are required to get an annual flu shot vaccine as part of condition of employment.
