CLIA Medical Director
The Louisiana Office of Public Health Laboratory has the need for a part time Clinical Pathologist who will function as the CLIA Medical Director. The incumbent must qualify as a High Complexity Laboratory Director according to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and hold or be eligible to obtain a Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners’ medical license prior to employment.
The laboratory medical director must be accessible to the OPH laboratory to provide onsite, telephone, or electronic consultation as needed. Periodic on-site visits, access to a computer during normal business hours, daily monitoring of state email, access to the lab’s quality management software, and signatory approval in a timely manner as needed are required. Although the exact onsite and remote time required is not fixed, it is estimated to be approximately 10 hours per week.
The OPH Laboratory is in a relatively new 67,546 square foot building located near the state capitol grounds in Baton Rouge. The laboratory performs environmental and clinical testing. In the clinical arena, for which incumbent will serve as the CLIA Medical Director, departments consist of Newborn Screening, Microbiology, Infectious Disease and Emerging Pathogens, and Virology and Sexually Transmitted Infections. In addition, the laboratory has Bioterrorism and Chemical Terrorism functions. The lab is supported by a Business Office, Accessioning Department, a state courier service, Quality Assurance Department, and support services including Laboratory Information Management support systems. The position will be available mid-May, 2025.
