Position Overview:
Under general supervision, the Community Center Assistant will support the day-to-day operations of the community center, ensuring smooth coordination of activities, staff, and facilities. Individuals in this role will be responsible for maintaining compliance and identifying opportunities for program improvements and collaboration with local groups.

The Community Center Assistant is expected to have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with community members and staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Operations Assistance: Assists with day-to-day community center operations, including checking in visitors, managing conference room reservations, setting up and breaking down rooms, ordering supplies, and performing other related administrative tasks as needed.
  • Facility Maintenance: Ensures the community center, including rooms, bathrooms, and common areas, remains clean, organized, and well-maintained at all times.
  • Calendar Coordination: Organizes and manages the program calendar, coordinating activities for support staff, vendors, and training schedules based on center needs and operational requirements.
  • Process Improvement: Recommends system improvements aimed at enhancing services and streamlining operational processes for greater efficiency.
  • Point of Contact: Serves as the primary point of contact for community groups, businesses, and agencies, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
  • Program Collaboration: Stays informed about other programs and events within the district, identifying opportunities for collaboration and partnership.
  • Compliance Management: Ensures compliance with all department policies, procedures, and safety guidelines, maintaining a safe and effective environment for all center activities.

Requirements

Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution. 
Experience:
  • One (1) years of related work experience in public service, community engagement, or outreach.
Licenses/Certifications:
  • Valid Texas Driver's License (upon Hire).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) must be obtained within 90-days of hire date.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient in using MS Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, to support daily operations and communication.
  • Proficient in using and understanding common databases, spreadsheets, and word-processing applications to support administrative functions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written, to engage with community members and staff.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with department staff, community members, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, ensuring smooth operations and accurate execution of tasks.
  • Ability to multitask and work independently with minimal supervision, while maintaining high levels of organization and efficiency.
  • Ability to track program trends, assess feedback, and recommend program and service improvements.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with department policies, procedures, and safety guidelines to maintain a safe and productive environment.

Qualifications

 Experience:
  • At least 2 years of experience working in community center, recreation center, or related setting.
Languages:
  • Bilingual in Spanish/ English. 
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
  • This is a full-time position.
  • Monday - Friday 10:00 AM - 7:00 PM (flexible); however, hours will vary and include nights and weekends, and holidays depending on the activities and events participation in department and division events.
Work Environment:
  • This position is primarily office-based, offering a professional and collaborative workspace utilizing technology to support daily tasks, including computers, phones, and software applications.
  • This role involves significant interaction with community member and colleagues, and staff.
Physical Demands:
  • This role requires the ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to fifty (50) pounds.
Work Location:
  • RISE Empowerment Center.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
