The Utah Department of Health and Human Services Division of Correctional Health Services is seeking to hire a Certified Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with an ability to work effectively with medical staff, officers and offenders at the Utah State Correctional Facility.
The ideal candidate will:
Must have a State of Utah Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate.
Have some experience working as an EMT.
Have good patient assessment skills.
Have good documentation skills.
Be detail oriented.
Have the ability to work well with medical staff, officers and offenders.

The Agency
Requirements
Administers medications consistent with CHS policies and procedures.
Assist nurses or providers in the provision of an individual's care.
Check and record vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, blood sugars, weight, etc. as directed by a provider or nursing staff.
Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, prepare the specimen for testing or forwarding to laboratory, and document.
Responds to emergencies and provides emergency medical care.
Performs physical assessments of patients, and refers patients requiring further evaluation or treatment to a registered nurse, physician or other health care professional.
Maintains emergency kits; checks for missing and/or outdated supplies and restocks them as necessary; restocks medical equipment and replenishes first-aid equipment and supplies in treatment areas.
A variety of treatments including, but not limited to, diabetic care, EKG's, wound care, and dressing changes.
Prepares treatment rooms for patient examination, disinfects and cleans treatment rooms following patient examinations. Keeps medical supplies stocked and organized.
Prepares and/or processes documents; reviews for accuracy and completeness; updates information and/or evaluates against policy; compares elements for consistency or logical relationships, etc.
Qualifications
Qualified candidates should have:
Certified as EMT Basic, Intermediate or Advanced
Additional Desired Qualifications include:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- State of Utah Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certificate required.
- This job is NOT public safety certified, and does not require peace officer status or certification.
- Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with contagious diseases or hazardous chemicals, etc.
- Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
