As a Professional Health Care Worker within the Cherokee County Dental Department at the Georgia Department of Public Healthyou will join a dedicated group of public health professionals that help support the overall mission and vision of protecting the lives of Georgian residents in a variety of ways.


Location: Cherokee County Dental Department in Canton, GA.

This position will work up to a maximum of 29 hours per week. 

Requirements

Under broad supervision, cleans teeth, examines head, neck, and oral areas for signs of oral disease. May educate clients on oral hygiene, take and develop X-rays or apply fluoride or sealants. May serve as a lead worker.

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Applies fluorides and caries preventing agents to arrest dental decay.
  • Charts conditions of decay and disease for diagnosis by the doctor.
  • Checks lymph nodes under chin and neck to detect swelling or tenderness which could indicate the presence of oral cancer.
  • Cleans calcareous deposits, accretions, and stains from teeth and beneath margins of the gums using a dental instrument.
  •   Exposes and develops radiographs.
  • Feels and visually examines for gingiva using probes to locate sores, periodontal recessed gums and signs of gum disease.
  • Makes impressions for sturdy models.
  • Provides clinical services and health education to clients and or staff to improve and maintain oral health.
  • Removes excess cement from coronal surfaces of teeth.
  • May serve as lead worker.
  • May train subordinate staff in proper procedures of day-to-day operations.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications

Associate's degree in dental hygiene from an accredited college or university AND a current Georgia dental hygienist license AND two (2) years of job-related experience.

OR

One (1) year of experience at the lower-level Dental Hygienist 2 (HCT011) or position equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
  • Familiar with Phosphor Plate Digital Radiographs

CBH accepts educational credential recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE) will be considered.

Some positions require pre-employment drug testing in which the applicant who is offered the position will be required to successfully complete.
