Requirements
The Informatics Epidemiologist is responsible for cross-cutting activities to support state and district Georgia epidemiologists to ensure the use of the web-based integrated disease surveillance and case management system, State Electronic Notifiable Disease Surveillance System (SendSS), and other health information exchange initiatives meet department and grant-funded requirements. This position will functionally sit within the Epidemiology section under the Chief Informatics Epidemiologist to ensure the needs of the epidemiology users are met while collaborating extensively with SendSS development and Informatics Staff. The Informatics Epidemiologist will combine epidemiologic understanding of notifiable disease investigations with a comprehension of data flow from notifiable disease diagnosis to data reporting to CDC to ensure user and system needs are met.
- Provide interface between epidemiology users and SendSS developers.
- Support new development/functionality requests with system-based expertise.
- Support epidemiology users with testing of new development.
- Troubleshoot functionality problems in SendSS reported by epidemiology users.
- Ensure new SendSS development/functionality is communicated widely to applicable public health users in district and state epidemiology positions.
- Examples of tasks might include: Message Mapping Guide (MMG) onboarding, case report form development, ELR/eCR development, implementation, and validation, SendSS application use during public health emergency response, etc.
Qualifications
Master's degree in public health or a closely related field from an accredited college or university AND Two years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field
OR
Bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university AND Three years of experience performing epidemiologic work or work in a closely related field
OR
Two years of experience at the lower level Epidemiologist 1 (HCP180) or position equivalent.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience working collaboratively with epidemiologists and system developers.
- Knowledge of federal agencies (EX. CDC) Requirements for electronic data transmission.
- Experience or knowledge of testing new system development.

DPH accepts educational credentials recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and/or the US Department of Education (DOE). DPH will contact educational institutions to verify degree, diploma, licensure, etc.
