RAES Project Manager/Lead

As a Project Manager for the Radioactive Air Emissions Section (RAES), you will co-lead licensing and inspection activities for federal facilities, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
Hanford Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA) AND Waste and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) Licensees
As the lead for the RAES Field Sampling Program, oversee quality assurance in licensing and inspections, and provide technical guidance to licensees. Additionally, you will represent RAES in meetings, mentor junior staff, and play a key role in emergency preparedness and response efforts.
Hanford Air Operating Permit (AOP)/ US Navy and Universities
This position manages the licensing and inspection activities of the associated emission units. Ensuring compliance and adherence to mandatory regulation guidelines.
The Project Manager is accountable for producing high-quality, timely work with minimal supervision and demonstrates punctuality and reliability. Effective communication is crucial, including verbal and written clarity, feedback openness, and empathy toward diverse audiences. The role requires cultural competency, respectful interaction with people from all backgrounds, and a focus on teamwork and collaboration. The manager must consistently treat others with respect and courtesy, make informed decisions, and apply problem-solving skills based on data and analysis. Upholding ethics and integrity is essential, as is contributing to quality improvement efforts. Additionally, the manager will enforce regulations fairly and reasonably.
Location and Flexibility
Enjoy the flexibility of our hybrid work environment, where you can balance working from home and in the field. It is anticipated that you’ll perform work activities in the South-Central Region & statewide as needed (supporting Hanford & other RAES licensing & inspection activities). Approximately 25% of the time, the rest of the work is done in an at-home workstation.
Required Qualifications (you must meet ONE of the provided options and any additional criteria listed.):
Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities. Please ensure any relevant experience defined below is outlined in your cover letter, resume, and/or applicant profile.
Option 1: Eight (8) years of professional experience in an official radiation control program or equivalent experience, AND application of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles and dosimetry.
Option 2: A Bachelor of Science degree in physical science, engineering, or biological science AND Four (4) years of professional experience in an official radiation control program or equivalent experience AND application of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles and dosimetry.
Option 3: Master of Science degree in physical science, engineering, or biological science AND two (2) years of professional experience in an official radiation control program or equivalent experience AND application of As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles and dosimetry.
NOTE: An official radiation control program is a radiation control program that is large enough to devote full-time staff to the review and control of the use of ionizing radiation with the intent of limiting and reducing human exposure to radiation.
Computer Skills: Use of computer word processing, inputting data into databases related to work activities, and communicating with others verbally and in writing, including utilizing email systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience applying the principles and requirements of the national emissions standards for hazardous air pollutants for radionuclide (40) CFR Part 61 and Washington Administrative Code 246-247.
- Experience with enforcing state and federal air emissions standards.
- Experience investigating radiation incidents or accidents.
- Experience interpreting regulations and policies governing the use of radioactive materials.
- Experience in the field of Radiation Science such that professional experience and education can be used to make decisions that protect the public from sources of ionizing radiation and ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations and standards.
- Experience with radiological computer programs.
