LOCATION OF (1) POSITION(S) TO BE FILLED: DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE & INSURANCE, INSURANCE DIVISION, DAVIDSON COUNTY
This position is designed as Hybrid (In office and Remote).
Qualifications
Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Pharmaceutical science and experience equivalent to two years of full-time responsible work as a pharmacist.
Substitution of Education for Experience: Completion of one year of residency.
Necessary Special Qualifications: Licensed as a Pharmacist in the State of Tennessee.
Examination Method: Education and Experience,100%, for Preferred Service positions.
Overview
Under direction, is responsible for supervisory professional pharmaceutical work of average difficulty; and performs related work as required. This is the highest class in the Pharmacist sub-series. An employee in this class is responsible for directing the operation of an institutional pharmacy, for serving as a consultant in a multi-county region, for serving as an investigator of pharmaceutical practices, or for offering guidance and advice to other pharmacists as a departmental consultant. This class differs from a Pharmacist 1 in that an incumbent of the latter is not responsible for supervising other pharmacists and is assigned duties of lesser scope and responsibility.
Responsibilities
- Monitors pharmacies and ensures medications and vaccines are maintained in appropriate conditions to maintain compliance with state/federal laws, policy, and regulations. Inspects medication equipment and facilities to ensure they meet requirements.
- Reviews pharmacies for compliance with federal/state regulations and accreditation requirements to ensure proper practice within area of responsibility. Analyzes data to ensure accuracy and compliance with contracts or federal/state laws, and cost savings.
- Serves as a pharmacy consultant and professional resource to various groups by providing drug information. Provides information to supervisors, co-workers, and subordinates.
- As required, reviews orders and prescriptions to ensure accuracy, to ascertain the needed ingredient, and evaluate their suitability. Provides medications to patients, compiles reports from relevant sources to submit orders, and provides answers to patients and staff regarding drug information inquiries.
- Makes recommendations regarding medications, medical equipment, or healthcare supplies. Provides specialized services to help patients manage conditions.
- Communicates with people outside the organization, representing the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources. Serves on various committees regarding pharmacy issues and testifies at the TN Board of Pharmacy and other hears as required.
- Assigns, trains, supervises, evaluates subordinate staff and their work. Identifies educational needs and develops formal pharmacy educational or training programs or classes as needed.
- Maintains continuing education as required by the TN Board of Pharmacy and maintains up-to-date pharmaceutical reference material.

TN Driver Standards
State of Tennessee positions that may involve driving responsibilities require candidates to meet the following minimum driver qualifications:
