What You Will Be Doing:
This Public Health Nurse 3 serves the Homer Public Health Clinic. In this advanced role, you'll independently deliver a full spectrum of public health nursing services to villages and rural communities. You'll use a holistic approach that includes individual, community, and systems-based care.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

This position is based in the Homer Public Health Center. Homer is a beautiful coastal community in South Central Alaska and on the road system. The health center is within walking distance of Bishops Beach, a short bike ride to downtown Homer, and a short distance from the Homer Spit.

Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska;

AND

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited college or university or Direct Entry Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing from an accredited college or university;

AND

Any combination of additional education, certification, and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in:

  • Public Health: Applies knowledge of the concepts, principles, theories, methods, and tools associated with protecting and improving the health of people and their communities, including promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing, and responding to infectious diseases.
  • Decision Making: Makes sound, well-informed, and objective decisions; perceives the impact and implications of decisions; commits to action, even in uncertain situations, to accomplish organizational goals; causes change.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.
  • Partnering: Develops networks and builds alliances; collaborates across boundaries to build strategic relationships and achieve common goals.
  • Analysis and Assessment: Uses information technology in accessing, collecting, analyzing, maintaining, and disseminating data and information.


Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Advanced post-secondary education in nursing, public health, healthcare services, healthcare administration, or a closely related field that includes master’s level study in nursing and/or public health;

AND/OR

Professional experience in public health, community health, international health, and/or occupational health nursing.


Special Notes:

Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Alaska and requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities, may apply for vacancies in this job class. Applicants qualifying under this option may receive a conditional job offer; however, proof of RN licensure will be required prior to appointment and reporting for duty.

“Progressively responsible” means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity, difficulty, or level of responsibility.

Qualifications

At the time of the interview, please provide the following:

  1. A copy a current Registered Nurse License (from any state)
  2. Three (3) professional references with current contact information, if not provided with your application
  3. A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial are okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to verify that you meet the minimum qualifications.

If chosen for the position, you will be required to provide the following items prior to employment:

  1. A copy of a current Alaska Registered Nurse license.
  2. Proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella immunizations.
  3. Proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or a signed declination statement)
  4. Annual influenza vaccination or a signed declination statement.  
  5. Proof of Tuberculosis screening within the past 12 months.
  6. A copy of your current driver's license.

The four proficiency levels are Mastery, Fluency, Literacy, and Discovery. You must rate your proficiency level for each competency listed in the supplemental questions. 

EDUCATION
To verify that education is being used to meet and/or support the required minimum qualifications/competencies, you must fill in the Education section of the application. If you have not obtained a degree, please indicate the number of units completed. Copies of transcripts are required to verify educational credentials used to meet or support the minimum qualifications/competencies for a position and are required with each application. Transcripts can be attached at the time of application or provided at the time of interview; if not, transcripts will be required before employment.
 
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR FOREIGN EDUCATION

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
