CDPH’s Microbial Diseases Laboratory (MDL) Program provides reference, diagnostic and applied research testing, and consultation for a variety of bacterial, mycobacterial, fungal, and parasitic diseases of public health importance. The MDL also serves as the State’s Laboratory Response Network (LRN) reference laboratory for biothreat testing and coordination of preparedness activities, and trains local public health laboratory personnel in state-of-the-art standardized laboratory procedures.
This position supports CDPH’s mission and strategic plan by providing public health laboratory testing support for mycobacterial, mycotic, parasitic, and immunodiagnostic diseases.
The Public Health Laboratory Technician (PHLT) I (Microbiology) assists with microbiological laboratory work by processing and preparing specimens for examination by microbiologists; preparing media and reagents; performing quality control checks on equipment, media, and reagents; and maintaining a neat, clean, and organized work environment. The PHLT I also assists with specimen accessioning and appropriate pre-analytic processing.
