Resident Treatment Technician

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Resident Treatment Technician to join the team at the Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI). This is a full-time position with variable scheduling possibilities and opportunity for advancement, growth, and development. In addition to the base pay rate, there is an available shift differential of $0.90 per hour for second shift.

IMHI is in search of an energetic and talented Resident Treatment Technician to perform the following duties:

(1) Orient to and learn the position of Resident Treatment Worker which (a) provides direct nursing care to patients as prescribed on the Treatment Plan, on- and off-ward units, under the direction of the Ward Nurse and/or the Nurse Supervisor, and (b) performs basic para-professional nursing or therapeutic work in the care or treatment of residents.

(2) Become a Certified Mandt Instructor and teach and review Mandt techniques with employees in the performance of their job duties.

(3) Lead safety efforts on the inpatient wards, respond to all escalating situations on and off the wards (campus), monitor the patients in their milieu, and role model approved Mandt techniques in de-escalation.

Qualifications

Experience equal to eighteen months of full time work as a nursing or therapeutic assistant in a health care facility or other facility for the intellectually disabled, mentally ill, elderly, physically ill or disabled;

OR
any equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of post high school education (thirty semester hours or equivalent academic units) with an emphasis in nursing and/or the social or behavioral sciences for one year of experience to a maximum substitution of one year.
