Staff Physician - Senior TB Program

This is a career-service position with clinical responsibilities. This position reports to and works under the supervision of the Medical Officer of the Tuberculosis Control Program (TBCP). The focuses of this position are to (1) provide direct patient care, (2) oversee medical management of the TBCP clients, and (3) provide medical consultation for healthcare professionals outside the TBCP in the community.

Work Schedule
This position is required to work at the TB clinic in person at least three days a week and a total of 24 hours each week. The position is required to work outside of business hours to meet operational needs. May also be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays when assigned or as needed. This position is not subject to the Fair Labor Standards Act and is not overtime eligible.
Work Location
The primary work location for this position is located at the TB Clinic, which is located at Harborview Medical Center in Downtown Seattle, 325 9th Ave, Seattle, Washington (East Wing of Harborview Medical Center - ground floor). This position is also a member of the WTCN (Washington TB Collaborative Network) team and may be dispatched to other Counties across the state with short notice to provide TB support services.
Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
Requirements
- Evaluate and medically manage patients diagnosed with active tuberculosis (TB) disease, and latent TB infection (LTBI).
- Evaluate and medically manage those who are suspected of having active TB disease.
- Evaluate and medically manage those who are exposed to an infectious TB case.
- Provide medical services including diagnosis, treatment, evaluation for treatment response, and management of adverse events.
- Coordinate medical management of TBCP’s clients with clinicians outside the TBCP.
- Provide medical consultation for TBCP nurses and for healthcare professionals outside the TBCP in the community.
- Read and interpret chest radiographs and consult with Harborview Medical Center/University of Washington radiologists as needed.
Participate in weekly case reviews and TB ECHO.
- Review existing clinical protocols and procedures and assist the TB DCO in writing and implementing new or revised clinical protocols and clinical procedures in the TBCP.
- Provide supervision to students, residents, fellows and visiting physicians who rotate through the TBCP while they are gaining clinical experience in TB.
- Assist the TB DCO in providing education efforts (e.g., lectures, in-service training).
- Review and study up-to-date information on medical evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and clinical management of patients with TB and LTBI.
- Work collaboratively with PHSS (the nursing supervisor), and perform quality improvement/quality assurance activities, including medical record review of clinical staff’s activities, to ensure compliance with clinical protocols.
- Work collaboratively with the TB program manager, the TBCP’s unit supervisors and staff, and community healthcare professionals to ensure effective program operations.
- Function as a DCO designee when he is out of the office.
- Perform other duties as assigned within the position's scope.
Qualifications
Our ideal candidate will demonstrate the following (Minimum):
Minimum two (2) years post-residency experience in infectious diseases, pulmonary medicine, or public health.
Washington State Drivers' License and the ability to travel to work.
- Current BLS-CPR for Healthcare Providers
- A National Provider Identification (NPI) must be obtained prior to employment
- Washington State Medical License must be obtained prior to employment.
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration must be obtained prior to employment.
Familiarity with CDC/WHO TB guidelines.
Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
Commitment to equity and social justice.
Experience with electronic health records system, preferably EPIC.
