Position Overview: 

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of the Office of Communications, Education and Engagement (OCEE), the Stakeholder Engagement Manager will oversee the planning and implementation of community engagement strategies for Harris County Public Health programs and services. The Stakeholder Engagement Manager is primarily responsible for connecting to people in the broader community and cultivating relationships with faith-based institutions, businesses, individuals, and other community-based organizations.

 

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and leads the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of stakeholder engagement strategies, plans and programs in conjunction with HCPH Divisions and Offices. Ensures project phases are implemented according to timelines.
  • Manages a team of Stakeholder Engagement Specialists to implement strategies for
    engagement of people and community.
  • Oversees and maintains the partnership repository on behalf of the agency, performing routine and regular check-ins and cleaning of repository. 
  • Regularly partners with individuals, departments, community representatives or groups, and other outside agencies to obtain information, conduct assessments, identify needs, and ensure effectiveness and consistency of stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Develops strong relationships with disproportionately impacted communities, individuals, local agencies, and organizations in Harris County.
  • Leads with cultural awareness and humility and knowledge of trauma-informed practices for engaging individuals and diverse communities.
  • Prepares and conducts presentations to community groups, local agencies and organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Represents Harris County Public Health by serving on or participating in task forces, working groups, committees, advisory groups, coalitions, emergency functions, and neighborhood groups.

Requirements

Education: 

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Relations, Social Work, or other related degrees.

Experience: 

  • At least five (5) years of experience with community engagement, public affairs/community relations/outreach, and/or communications or related field.
  • At least one (1) year of supervisory experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). 
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written). 
  • Planning and Project management skills. 
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and foster teamwork in a diverse environment. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information. 
  • Ability to work well with teammates.

Qualifications

Experience:
  • At least two (2) years of supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of neighborhood and community organizations and local agencies in Harris County. 

Position Type, and Typical Hours of Work: 

  • This is a full-time position.
  • Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, from 8am to 5 pm.
  • Other days and hours as necessary.
  • Telework option available after 90 days of consecutive employment.

Work Environment: 

  • This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands: 

  • This is a largely sedentary role; however, some duties would require the ability to lift up to 20 pounds and bending & standing for periods at a time.
