Typist Advanced Floater
This position purpose is to answer customer calls, enter or close application orders, help customers at the HHS reception window. This position serves to provide customer service to individuals who are entitled to vital records in Iowa.
Responsibilities:
- Answering customer service calls to verify identification and accept certified copy orders
- Accurate data entry into multiple vital records systems
- Reviewing and enter/reject certified copy orders received in the mail
- Verify records processed and closing orders in the vital record systems and mail correct documents to customer
- Receive orders at the front HHS Reception Window
- Verify entitlement to all vital record orders accepted for process.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
- The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, **as verified by a typing test, and experience equal to one year of full-time clerical office support work.
- The ability to type at least 40 words per minute, as verified by a typing test, and a total of one year of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where one year of post-high school course work in an accredited secretarial, business, or closely-related curriculum or 30 semester hours of accredited college or university course work in any field equals one year of full-time experience.
- Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes six months of full-time work as a Typist.

If you do not have a test, you may schedule a time with IowaWorks locations across the state, schools and other places may be closed to take tests. We are temporarily allowing ONLINE tests. Many free and reliable tests can be found by searching online. A site that has been popular amongst applicants is speedtypingonline.com. You may also use typing.com or typingtest.com. The test can be accepted if it is witnessed by another person and it has met the requirements/guidelines on the document submitted.
These guidelines must be met and need to be on the typing document you submit:
- Gross number of words typed in a five minute timed test
- Number of errors
- Net words per minute (one point deduction for each error)
- Your name and date must be on the document submitted to this office.
- And it must be signed off by a witness or another person not just from the typing website's electronic signature.
- You may attach the document to the online application.
