What you will be doing:
As the Visual Information Specialist, your role will involve designing and producing a variety of visual materials, including graphics, infographics, videos, and animations, to communicate information clearly and engagingly. You will handle the technical aspects of media production, such as filming, editing, and creating motion graphics, while managing and organizing visual assets to ensure they are up-to-date and accessible. Additionally, you will collaborate with various departments to align visual content with organizational branding and messaging, develop strategies to engage target audiences, and utilize design software and editing tools to produce high-quality media.

This position is part of the Communications Team, the centralized group of communications professionals that supports our department, and is based in or around Anchorage or Juneau. We currently work hybrid schedules from home or in an office setting, as appropriate. Because our department is so broad in scope and one of the largest State of Alaska departments, the work is highly varied in content and the audiences we strive to reach with our communications efforts. Our work environment is fast-paced, challenging, and creative, requiring the ability to work independently and collaboratively on longer-term projects and those with tight deadlines.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:
Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or professional level experience in journalism, art, public relations, English, audio-visual arts, marketing, ad agency work, photography, or information work with emphasis on writing and motion picture-still photography, or a closely related field/industry.
Special Note:
“Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.
“Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
“Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. Qualifications
- Three (3) professional references whom we may contact by phone, one (1) of whom must be your current or most recent supervisor, if not already provided in the application.
- Current performance evaluation, if available.
- A copy of academic transcripts (unofficial are okay; please ensure that the institution name/URL is listed on the transcripts) is used to support that you meet the minimum qualification competencies.
- Three writing samples for at least two different target audience types. Please include one long-form and one short-form writing sample (examples include a radio ad script, social media post, newsletter or blog post) and one public education or advertising campaign you developed or implemented.
- Copy of current Resume.
